Just wonderign if anyone has tried using a compact for stock agencies?

As the best camera is the one you have with you I was toying with a compact, the XZ1 being a contendor.

Anyone any thoughts on compacts from an image quality pov?

Well, the XZ-1 is on the Alamy unsuitable camera list (http://www.alamy.com/contributor/help/unsuitable-olympus-list.asp?cname=Olympus), supposedly the list is compiled of cameras with a list of QC fails on submitted images.

It might be best to ask the Agencies with whom you deal, it would be a shame to get rejections just because of the camera you used.

Apart from Alamy noone else restricts the camera per se, I have had a couple accepted froma relatively basic p and s.

I'm off to work in London (I think) for a few weeks during the olympics adn am after something pocket sized but with the best IQ possible.

In that case I would naturally be drawn to either the Olympus XZ-1 or Panasonic LX5 but there are others and it might be worth a visit to http://www.seriouscompacts.com/forum.php

Thanks John,
Although I pjrased the original query at "stock" I am probably just after the very best IQ i can get from something I can fit in my ppocket.

Looks like some more reading ;)

So far i am considering the xz1 and the fuji x10

I see the E-1 is on that list too :(

Yes - but from the E-500/400 onwards all Olympus DSLR's are on the recommended list, plus all the PENs. Alamy has a minimum uncompressed file size of 24mb, which means an 8mp+ plus camera. Other agencies have different criteria.

I've looked at the pen's, happy with the Iq but with a useful lens too big.

There's a review of high end compacts in this month's Digital Camera mag which you might find interesting. Fuji X10 comes out on top in their assessment.

But a word of caution - there has been a well publicised problem with the X10 sensor (google 'X10 white orbs') although it really only seems to be an issue with shooting a scene with small highlight areas (such as street lights). Fuji are to start replacing sensors in affected X10's in May: http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/04/26/Fujifilm-X10-white-orb-update and if you go for an X10 (which would probably be my choice, not least because it has an optical viewfinder - those who need to wear reading glasses will understand) you might be better to wait for a few weeks to make sure that you get a camera with the new sensor installed.

Thanks for the heads up, probably explains why Jessops have a good discount on the X10 atm.

from what i read I think the discount will outweigh teh orb problem for me.

This is all very complicated!

I'm now favouring the panasonic gx1 with the tiny 14-42 zoom, is anyone using that lens ?

Ater changing my mind 100 times finally went on price.

If I like the body it should be small enough with a 30mm pancake.
