Hi Folks

eGroup Easter fun challenge

OK, time to let you know of a last-minute eGroup Easter fun challenge - nothing too serious, just some fun for today (Easter Sunday) and tomorrow (Easter Monday). There's a few little token prizes available - courtesy of Ian:

Limited Edition Black OM1 miniature
Olympus Cap

The winner can choose. Here's the challenge.

So that as many people can enter as possible (and it's only fun after all) you need to submit at least 1 image from Category 1, at least 1 image from Category 2, but you MUST submit your entry from Category 3.

Category 1

Helping hand
A memory from your childhood
Practice makes perfect
Portrait of someone
Yellow

Category 2

Easter Eggs
A view from below
Seven
Tidiness
Early bird

Category 3

Reprocess this image from the RAw file in whatever way you want (the RAW is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3113664/models.ORF ). Inspired for this category by Chevvyf1's post yesterday asking about editing others images. Here's everyone's chance to have a bash

http://www.reflectingme.com/img/s3/v41/p615455993-2.jpg

In the event of a tie-break, there's a cryptic question for you: did you spot it, if so, prove it! (In a PM to me of course, not in your post here which would, or course, give it away!)

I have asked Ian to be the judge, you have today and tomorrow to get your submissions in (by 19:00, Mon 9th April). Post them in this thread as:

Category 1: Image title
Category 2: Image title
Category 3: Image title
Tie-break answer

... and you're done.

Off you go.... good luck, and remember, have fun!*chr

As for the tie-break? I give up!

I'm sure I could find better if I tried, but it's a busy weekend for me and if I don't do it now, I never will!

Janet

Edited to add...is the tie-break the deliberate mistake about the Easter Challenge?

I got the answer at 4.00 this morning! It came to me in my sleep...!! I actually got it as soon as I read the thread yesterday, but dismissed it thinking it was ME who was being dim and missing something!

Trouble is, I had to wait until now to send my PM as my broadband has been down since the early hours.

Looking forward to seeing some more entries throughout the day. We should have more fun competitions like this.

By the way, I think I've finally got the tie-break - I was wrong the first time! John deserves a good slap for his deliberate mistake!

I'm more bothered about the tie-break question than anything else - it's been driving me do-lally!

Janet, I thought I must have missed the RESULTs  Has Ian NOT posted RESULTs yet ?:( ...

Poor Ian must be having a real hard time - so many entries and such a high standard :D

TBH  I had so much fun doing it and seeing others entries for all three sections, THAT was the Result for me !

Perhaps if this is to be a Regular competition we could set up a Voting system, for each section 1-5 points - we may end up with three in 1st - but that does not really matter - it is the fun of taking part ? :D

Today Ian is photographing a white water canoe slalom at Lee Valley Park so we'll need to be patient a little longer.

Then, if he's got his E-M5 back, he needs to photograph the moon reflected in a distant sign with small writing at 300mm, strapped to a bird in flight, raw and JPEG, with and without IS and no tripod whilst standing on his head (it's a long story but followers of FTU might have an inkling what I'm on about ;)) :D

Hi all and sorry for the delay in announcing the winners. This is harder than you might think! So here we go:

http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/500/Lew-small2.jpg (http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/37457)
Category 1, Gregles (Portrait) - Super sharp, with an interesting pose and I liked the mono toned effect. I always think that a good portrait makes one ask one's self what the subject is thinking about and this was the case here.

http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/1364/Whitelee_Turbine.jpg (http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/42673)
Category 2, Jamie Allan (View from below) - Super composition - well seen. I love this kind of semi-abstract imagery and have several of my own wind turbine studies. I'd have been proud to have produced one like this.

http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/data/1399/Web3.JPG (http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/45011)
Category 3, Paul - (RAW file reprocessed) - This is a technical tour de force by Paul (no surprise there! :)) - I liked the introduction of the nautical background (I know it is a pier but it looks a little like a ship!) and it is topical with all the news about the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, of course.

and

Best all round: Snaarman http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showpost.php?p=159497&postcount=20 I felt Snaarman showed the best all round consistency and so deserves a prize too :)

I wish I could have given everyone a prize!

Of course, I am more than happy to organise more of these and I do believe we have two more Bank Holidays coming up... who knows what might happen, eh :) Next bank holiday is 7th May I think, so I'll come up with something interesting that incorporates photography and image manipulation of sorts.

I'll think of another simple format, and announce something as we approach the bank holiday. How's that...?

PS: I'll enter, because I too don't want to miss out on the fun, but won't be part of the judging so as to keep it fair.

Congratulations to all the winners.

I have to say that there were some cracking shots there, and interesting interpretations of the themes, but Greg's portrait made me go "WOW"....that really was a stunning entry.

All in all, good fun and I look forward to some more!

Well judged Ian, and excellent to hear the reasons behind your choices. Well done to John too for taking the time to put it all together....but damn you for that infernal tie-break question! It's easy-peasy when you know the answer, but it had me scratching my head for a while!

John, I'd be interested to hear what your models thought of the final images of them? I suspect we all found it fun to manipulate that pic...I know I did! I actually learned something whilst doing it, which is a big plus!

I was impressed with the number of entries too...it's been a while since we've had something where so many joined in. As John has stated that he'd like to enter the next one, can I suggest that maybe the winner of each challenge either sets and judges the next one, or if John is happy to keep coming up with ideas for challenges, the winner of each can simply select the person he'd like to do the judging for the next one? We really can't impose on Ian all the time...after all, he may like to enter himself!

I think it would be rather fun to have a different judge each time...each of us has a different view of what is and isn't a good image, so I suspect it could prove rather interesting!

Just a thought...

Janet
