Please allow me to pick your brains :)

I have been offered the chance to do an event (a ball) which could lead to more event work.

I think it is important to be able to offer prints onsite, what printer would you go for ?

Depends on the size of prints required, but I would suggest renting/buying a Dye-Sub printer; much faster than an ink-jet, (30 secs or less A4 size) these also have a protective coating on top, and deliver 16-bit colour by default. I have bought a Mitsubishi CP3020DA from System Insight which outputs 8"x10" and 8"x12" prints. They also do other models and makes, in smaller print sizes. The only niggles I have with Dye-Subs, is that with the Mitsubishi printers, there aren't Vista and Win 7 drivers available and prints are fussy about dust. Subject to those issues, the output quality is excellent! Though marginally more expensive (per sheet) than an inkjet, (after factoring in ink/paper losses with an inkjet) the speed of printing and lack of ink-smudging, in my opinion far outweighs the extra cost.

What size do you want to print to? I have a Kodak Sub dye printer that I don't use any more, prints 6x4 or 6x8. Needs windows to use it.

I was thinking 6x8" tbh, with larger prints to order after the event.

I don't know anything about the Kodak printers but i am interested if you are selling ?
