My E400 (and later E520) came with the 14-42 as standard glassware.

I wasn't aware until relatively recently that at least one E model came with a 17.5-45 as packaged lens.

With the focal lengths close to each other - it seems, at face value, a strange practice to produce such similar lenses with the same aperture range.

Unless I've missed something ?

The 17.5-45 is much cheaper than the other standard zooms and the front rotates when you focus so you can't use a polariser. It's definitely the least attractive of all the E series lenses.

Thanks David.

Incidentally, I have 2 x standard 14-42 lenses and it may be that one is the Mark I version and the other the later Mark II.

Can they be easily identified as different ?

The Biofos articles are really good on these lenses, and so there's too much info for me to repeat.
Go have a good look.
