Is it possible to non-destructively remove the tripod collar on this lens? I'd much sooner carry it with my tripod rather than have it be rather uncomfortable on the lens when I'm hand-holding. At the moment I have it set so the tripod bush is at 2 O'clock, which helps, but not totally.*help

Hi, You are about 2 hours too late. If you set the tripod mount so it is at the top of the lens, ie. 12 o'clock, it will slide off towards the mount. The white line on the collar should align with a spot on the lens body. Just be sure you don't lose the plastic collar which sits inside the mount.

Ah, that's better! I suppose that is in the manual? Which is in the box, which I've never read! :o Thanks. And it saves a bit of weight. *chr

You can do a similar thing to remove the collar on the original 50-200.
