Well it has been a while since I have vsisted this forum, but it is good to see that it is as strong as ever!

This upcoming year I am thinking of trading in my 14-54 f2.5-3.5 to purchase the 12-60 f2.8-3.5 SWD lens. I have an E-30 and I have finally started to shoot RAW files and editing them in Lighroom which has is a real joy!

I am looking for a lens that has a wider and longer reach and I think the 12-60 is a good fit for me and my work.

Does anyone have any experience with both lenses mentioned here and and how much better is the 12-60 vs the 14-54? Just to mnake it clear, the 14-54 that I own is an excellent lens. It is just the range that I need to expand and to also speed up the focusing speed as well.

Glad to be back....................and thanks for your inputs!!!!!!!!*chr

I was never impressed with my sample of the 14-54 and sold it after testing the sample of the 14-42 kit lens that came with my E-410.

At that time the 12-60 and SWD 50-200 had been announced so my plan was to shoot the kit lenses until they were available. I've never regretted selling the 14-54 but can't imagine getting rid of the 12-60 even if I do get the 14-35 at some point.

I have had both, including the Mk2 14-54 which was good on m4/3 with an adaptor. For handling I preferred the 14-54 as I found that the 12-60 was that bit fatter and not quite as balanced. However, I will concede that the 12-60 has better range, and it works well with the 1.4x tele converter.

Were I to buy an E-5, the chances are I would get the 12-60 despite all I have said about the handling. That lens, plus the 7-14 and 50-200, are all you would need most of the time.

I also use an E30 and find I hardly ever use the 14-54 but that the 12-60 is my main walk about lens. Both good lenses but the 12-60 has the edge and extra reach.

Thank to all who have replied to this thread. I will be looking forward to getting the 12 to 60 and will report back on the findings.
