View Full Version : Four Thirds User Problems ?

Is anyone else experiencing problems accessing Four Thirds User? It's been unavailable to me for most of the last two days but on the rare occasion I have got on it's been apparent that others have been able to use the site during the times that I have not.

Any comments appreciated.

I can access FTU without problem John. I did have some trouble accessing here last week for a day or so, but it seemed there was an IP issue in my local router as when I accessed e-group from a wired connection it worked, just couldn't access from wireless.

A quick reset of my router fixed it all...:)

Have you tried clearing your cache out? Which browser do you use? I can access it without problems using Firefox.

I had a similar problem trying to access Fotosense in December/January but it seems to be okay now.

I'm not aware of any problems - the server has been up for 200+ days on the trot according to the system status.

People have been posting on the forum normally as well.

Could be a routing issue with your ISP?

Everything seems to be OK for me.

I tried it with IE7 and Firefox.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

You are not connected to the Internet.
SiteProblem The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address. No luck here still. No other site causing problems. I'm using Vista not that that matters and IE7. I reckon it will need new bookmarks etc - possibly a new log-in to 4/3rds. Will advise
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I couldn't even get in via Google

ALL other sites working perfectly

Ah! Any of you with problems connected via Eclipse Internet by any chance?

I have a theory...

Ken, I'm on Vista too - what Internet provider do you use? I'm on btinternet.com

Well I can't see FTU here at the office at the moment, but I know why - I accidentally locked myself out after trying to enter the wrong password to the server. I assumed it was just my IP address that was blocked, but it may be affecting all Eclipse Internet or even all or some BT ADSL users (including wholesale resellers like Eclipse)?

If this is right, it's scheduled to be fixed tomorrow...

Ahha!

At least it's not our computers! And maybe, just for a change, Vista is not to blame - although I wouldn't rule it out entirely, knowing it like I do!

On the other hand, I've just spotted this post from andy. Do you have Vista or XP?

I've sometimes had sites that get stuck. I've found that if I reboot the router it helps - unplug, plug back in again.

I have ben getting "No Access" all Sunday using either XP + IE or Opera. Mac + Opera or Safari. I just but it down to ISP issues. Now in work I have no problems accessing FTU site

All very strange

Difficult to see a rhyme or reason. It's 'up' then it completely disappears- then back - then gone.... nothing else affected either.

FYI Ian

Now able to access FTU - I wonder for how long? - but no graphics on the page so lots of red 'X's where there should be thread status icons etc - like you sometimes get if a server is really slow/over-worked/or under a DNS attack.

My system is running perfectly here - all sites 100%, I-Player downloading perfectly etc? You Tube fine and all foums perfect.

Hope the info helps your techie guy.

Sorry guys - my technical guru was away yesterday, so we have not yet been able to tackle the problem. Fingers crossed for today.

Hi All

Currently we think this might be a DNS problem. Both users who have reported significant problems are users of BT Internet. If anyone else finds they are frequently locked out of the site (and deleting cookies seems to let you in again) please PM me with details of your ISP and (if possible) the IP address(es) of the DNS server(s) you are using - then we can try to track this thing down.

thanks
David

Oh Dear now it's my turn, I have just tried to access FTU with no luck, strange as it's the first time I have had a problem this week. I confess though to also being a bt customer:eek:, thinking about it, all week I have been going on from work which will be a different supplier, this is my first attempt from home this week.
Oh well I'll stand by to see what develops.

For those having access problems to the FTU site, I'm suggesting that you try changing your DNS server settings. All those who have reported the access problems so far are customers of BT internet - there could be an issue with their DNS servers - so it is worth using someone else's!

You can try the OpenDNS service which seems pretty good - you can find details on what to do here: https://www.opendns.com/start

For windows users, here are some troubleshooting instructions. You will need to run a command prompt

ping www.fourthirds-user.com
you should resolve to 72.52.154.84

If not, then you have a DNS problem.

Next you need to perform a traceroute. This traces each point of the internet between you and the fourthirds-user website.

Here is my tracerouter.

C:\Users\John Baker>tracert www.fourthirds-user.com

Tracing route to fourthirds-user.com [72.52.154.84]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 1 ms <1 ms router-lan [192.168.253.254]
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 20 ms 20 ms 19 ms 217.41.213.162
4 20 ms 22 ms 21 ms 217.41.213.238
5 21 ms 21 ms 22 ms thn1-gi0-3-3.namesco.net [195.7.254.2]
6 22 ms 21 ms 21 ms ndo-gw1.cust.ptn.plus.net [212.159.2.9]
7 20 ms 24 ms 21 ms ldn-b4-link.telia.net [213.248.84.197]
8 21 ms 21 ms 22 ms ldn-bb1-link.telia.net [80.91.249.77]
9 94 ms 95 ms 94 ms nyk-bb2-link.telia.net [80.91.248.254]
10 92 ms 91 ms 94 ms nyk-b5-link.telia.net [80.91.248.162]

15 119 ms 119 ms 119 ms ae-11-55.car1.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.68.101.130]

18 118 ms 119 ms 121 ms lw-dc2-dist1-ge1.rtr.liquidweb.com [209.59.157.9
8]
19 121 ms 121 ms 121 ms host.fourthirds-user.com [72.52.154.84]

Trace complete.

If you run the tracert command you may see different names and numbers. This is to be expected.

If the last one is not the "host.fourthirds-user.com", then you may have a routing problem. Please update this thread indicating the information.

For those less computer savvy - Davids DNS idea does seem to work.
