After much thought over the last couple of weeks and with nice pictures by Peter(Art Frames) and Nick I finally cracked and went out and got the Sigma 50-500.Had a look at the 135-400 but could not resist the Bigma.

First picture

Jpeg out of the camera just a little Levels and resized.

This was hand held and may be where IS comes into it own.

Got to find a good but not to expensive 82mm filter now.

John

It is big and heavy but I find I can hand hold it as long as I keep to about 1/250 or faster with I/s on.Wide open at 500mm is f6.3,I have been stopping down by 1 stop to f 7.1 and using 400iso.
With the EC14 its F8.9 wide open,Ive had a dabble with this but yet to decide if I want to use it.
What is the F stop with the EC20???

Good luck using it I really think its what IS is for when hand holding.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures.

Wehey John she is a Big One eh! I too am looking forward to seeing some photos from you taken with this and with the EC-20 combo. You can try my EC-14 with it on the weekend by all means.

I have not had change to take many images worth ppsting yet.

The Bigma and EC-20 at 500mm givems me a reading of F12. This suprised me, as my calcualtion indicate is should be F13ish.

You cannot use the combo without a support.

I ahve also found that you need a lot of light to focus.....this is not suprising. However when using the combo, you cannot focus on anything that it close. I found that 6M was optimal for min focusing.

I hope the weather is OK tonight, as I want to take some moon shots.

I also had the 50mm macro arrive. First impressions.......damm sharp.

Both lenses are going to take time to learn, but it should be fun.

Next the EC-14, 25mm Pancake and maybe the 50-200mm SWD.

WANT ONE! :D

Looking forward to some shots from this lens.

Instead of the EC-20 some people are using two stacked EC-14's - gived the same F loss and magnification, but some people report it as being slightly sharper.

However its an expesive option  I got my EC from chinaarts on ebay - very competitive price, and 2 days from HK!

My God! That's enormous! I thought the 135-400mm was bad enough... You can guarantee people will start asking for your advice on photography when you're out shooting now! So long as the police don't think it's some sort of rocket launcher...

Deep envy. I tried to get one of those several times on eBay and got pipped (and from a Canadian Flickr chum, who decided to sell to someone who wanted his 7-14mm as well!), so settled for the 135-400.

Look forward to seeing the results.
