How do you tell the difference visually ?
and what difference is there, in these two lenses ?

From memory the only difference is the SWD (faster) focusing and thin blue ring near the front element on the mark II.

And the Mk 2 doesn't appear to take the Ring Flash.

Have you a photo of a Mk1 and a photo of a Mk II ?
and any idea how long ago the Mk1 was out/sold ?

Mine is like the one for sale in Argos now, so I think its Mk II ???

From memory the only difference is the SWD (faster) focusing and thin blue ring near the front element on the mark II.

Also a different tripod mount, lens hood and I think the aperture blades were reshaped although I'm not positive about the last point.

My sample of the SWD is significantly better than the sample of the original version I used to own.

Yes, they changed the bayonet when they redesigned the lens hood to include a drainage hole.

The Mk II was announced on 17th October 2007. Focusing time is quoted as being half that of the Mk 1 version. Not sure but I seem to recall Olympus saying that the optical quality had been improved but I may be wrong on that point.

Edit: The "drainage hole" is actually for access to a circular polariser when fitted - a handy improvement.
