The FL-40 is a good flash and you're right, some of them are real bargains on eBay.

However, it is not fully compatible with the E-series from the E-1 onwards. It can work with any E camera in Auto mode but will not work in TTL mode. This means you'll have to be involved with the settings. The advantage of TTL is that the camera and the flash "talk" to one another, meaning the flash reacts accordingly when you change the settings on the camera.

If you want troublefree use, get the FL-36 or FL-50 to benefit from TTL.
