Hi all,

Advice please!!!

I purchased an E-500 several months ago as a package with 2 lenses the 17.5-45 zoom and the 40-150 zoom.

I am disappointed with the 17.5-45 lens, it seems OK in bright conditions, but seems a tad soft and not as sharp in lower lighting conditions (typical British Oct/Nov overcast day) – I thought that it was me with camera shake, but I seem to be getting the same results on a tripod using a remote release and 10 second delay.

One report/comment I read on the lens states that it was made in China as ‘Olympus were cutting costs in selling the E-500 as an SE package’.

So, my question is – should I get the standard 14-45 lens as a replacement, or should I ‘push the boat out’ and get the Sigma 17-70 EX DC f2.8-4.

Any comments/guidance much appreciated.

I recommend the 14-42 3.5-5.6. It's excellent. Nice & compact too.

I don't think that sigma is available on 4/3.

Especially as you can get it for £80 atm from Park Cameras. I'm a little tempted myself.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem with the 17.5-40 lens but opted for the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens and it is just brilliant. It is not small but it is so fast and bright.

The only problem is I now want the 11-22 Oly lens.

Good luck.

Another handy thing is that it shares the 58mm filters of the 150mm lens you have, if you use them.

Thanks guys for all of your replies,

I have decided to stick with Olympus and have just bought the Oly 14-54f2.8-3.5.

Looking forward to trying it out once I receive it.
