Short notice - tomorrow, Friday 15th April

Old Cemetery and Common, meet at about 12:30.

Meet at Hill Lane entrance to the Old Cemetery, which is about 50 yards south of the mini roundabout junction with Wilton Road - near King Edward VI School ... I know it's safe to park there and there are loads of parking spaces. The school's postcode is SO15 5UQ, but SatNav may take you to Kellett Road which is the next junction north. It's on this aerial view

You will see :-

Loads of Spring flowers (primroses, celandines and wood anemones) and a huge variety of trees coming into leaf. There are ducks/geese/swans/dabchicks on the Common's three lakes and there might also be an interesting something-or-other in the Hawthorns Wildlife Centre - newts etc. and maybe an early damselfly or two and possibly sand lizards if it's sunny.

Here's something about the Old Cemetery - 27 acres, very pleasant, I think it's SSSI. Has some superb and unusual memorials and, of course, memorials to those lost on the Titanic as well special memorials to those lost in other significant shipping disasters (e.g. Rhone/Wye; Douro)

The Common (326 acres)

Hawthorns Wildlife Centre

The Common is here

The Cowherds is on the eastern side of The Common, on The Avenue. Haven't a clue what it's like. Food served all day.

Yeah, especially as the pick-up's off the road with a dying sensor in the engine management system.
