View Full Version : Keyhaven - short notice - weather permitting.

22nd February 2011, 02:15 PM
Tomorrow, 23rd Feb., about 13:15 hrs..

Bring your own food/refreshments because I'm not sure if the pub does bar meals/snacks.

No idea what the tide times are, but there are plenty of Winter visitors still around.

Meet at small car park over the little bridge ... beneath the '+' on this map. http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=50.723086&lon=-1.565093&z=18.1&r=0&src=msl

This is a free parking area, good for up to 4 hours.

Will probably be walking a circular route along the sea wall to the east, then back along the inland path with a detour to a little lake.

Either turn up and meet there, or phone 07941 906197

Postponed due to very heavy rain, the Met Office didn't see it coming and still says it'll clear by midday which is unlikely.

Meet Monday 28th February - same time, same place.

3rd March 2011, 12:06 AM
Let's try again!

Friday 4th March, probably about 13:00 hrs, with own lunch etc..

Meet close by the little bridge close to the X marked as A on the map.

Please confirm via Facebook/email/forum personal messaging or by text/phone = 07941 906187 or use our home number.

I've no idea how accurate the weather forecast is likely to be, "they" all said it would be fine on Monday - it rained. Today was meant to be wet, so we had sunshine and it's now frosty!

The consensus is that Friday's weather seems promising, the worst scenario is from Wunderground which suggests it'll be quite chilly
Partly Cloudy. High: 8 C. Wind ENE 16 - 21 km/h. Windchill: -5 C.

High tide at midday http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/easytide/EasyTide/ShowPrediction.aspx?PortID=0061&PredictionLength=7

For future reference there's this parking available (image from Flash Earth)

Two in Keyhaven :-
A = Free parking, not many spaces, available for a max of 4 hours

B= Public car park, plenty of spaces. Toilets available. Pub directly opposite

One at the landward end of Hurst Spit :-
C = Parking close to the landward end of Hurst Spit. Be aware that the road (Saltgrass Lane) often floods with Spring Tides. There's usually an Ice Cream Van on the corner during warmer months.

You can see the same view on an aerial map at Flash Earth (which you don't have to download)

For future reference ... I won't repeat any of these details, will just refer to the letters on the aerial map.

Anybody else who feels like arranging a stroll in the area please feel free to mention it in/on this thread, there doesn't seem to be much point in starting a new one each time.

10th March 2011, 12:35 PM
Meet on the little bridge at 2.00 pm, see Ellie's post for last week for all other details.

High tide at Hurst Point is predicted as at 14:12 so we should be walking round the sea wall on a falling tide.

Wind SW, S 6-9 mph, scattered clouds - pleasant but wrap up well!

We had a very pleasant walk there last week so please come and join us - the more the merrier - just turn up or phone for any further details:

Ellie and I are planning another walk around the sea wall at Keyhaven on Friday. No doubt there will be quite a change since last time which was on 11 March.

Please come and join us.

Meet on the little bridge at 1.00 pm, (free parking, and see previous posts for other details, particularly Ellie's of 3rd March).

We suggest you bring your own food/refreshments as the one pub at Keyhaven is something of an unknown quantity.

High water at Hurst Point is predicted as at 13:02 BST on Friday so the tide should be falling:

and the weather - not at all bad, apparently:

No takers?

Surely not - it's a fascinating spot, lots to photograph, great views and sea air.

I would love to join you but I have one baby/buggy on Friday ! NOT conducive to wildlife photography me thinks ! But thanks for arranging and posting !
