View Full Version : Kingston lacy - snowdrops

13th February 2011, 11:00 PM
Weather permitting, Ellie and I are planning to walk around the snowdrop rockeries at Kingston Lacy this coming Thursday (17th). Please join us.

The Kingston Lacy Estate is owned by the National Trust:

It is just North of Wimborne Minster, (Dorset) on the direct, (“upper”) road (B3082) to Blandford Forum.

The postcode (for SatNavs) is BH21 4EA.

Approx OS ref of entrance: ST 979019 (Landranger Sheet 195)

The house is closed for the winter but the gardens, including the snowdrop walks, are open every day from 10 am – 4 pm. It takes some 30-40 minutes to walk round the snowdrops WITHOUT stopping to take pictures. So, say, 60-90 minutes for us.

I suggest we meet at around 12:30pm in the restaurant for a snack, and/or outside the front of the house at about 1:15 pm

Entry to the gardens (including the Snowdrop Walk) costs £5.25. NT members free. Parking free.

To visit nearby:

Badbury Rings:

an iron age earthworks, is just up the road beside an avenue of beech trees.

The remains of Tarrant Rushton airfield from where the D-Day gliders left to take Pegasus Bridge (Memorial) are a few miles away.

The Café at Kingston Lacy is open more or less when the gardens are open.

The Anchor at Shapwick: http://www.anchorshapwick.co.uk/ This is a village pub 2 or 3 miles away (down narrow lanes). “Gastro pub” type food – very good but not cheap.

There are many pubs and cafes in Wimborne. The Kings Head on the Square is pleasant.

Please pm Ellie or myself if you can make it to give us an idea of who to look our for. We will then pm contact numbers.

*chr Thanks for organising this David, I'm looking forward to it.

If the weather forecast is right it looks as if Thursday day will be dry with scattered cloud and not too cold.

I've already put my mobile number on here, for other 'meets', so I'll add it now in case anybody decides to come along at the last minute and wants to find us - 07941 906187

A quick 'bump' in case anybody else is free tomorrow.
