View Full Version : E5 Autofocus fine tuning - how?

I just read in a thread lower down that the E5 allows fine-tuning of the autofocus for different lenses.

I just had my 50-200 SWD mm and EC14 converter back from servicing/repairs, as well as the E3. These three in combination now work very nicely. Nice, sharp focus all the way. But, when I put the E 5 on the 50-200 and EC14 combo, the focus isn't sharp. It beeps, but focuses slightly behind what I focused on. I had to adjust with manual focus. I am suspecting that this is due to need of adjustment in the camera, as the E3 does a lovely job of focusing (and I wanted the E5 for high ISO bird images :()

My Norwegian manual doesn't cover the topic as far as I can see, or I can't think of what they are calling it in my mother tongue :D anyhow I can't find it.
Edit to add: The E5 likes the EC20 better, it seems. And the 50-200 on its own.

So, I'm counting on you guys and gals... HELP!

This is the manual in English and the section you want is AF adjust which is available in Menu:Utility and is on page 118.

Cathrine, Have a look at these two links The first is really about a Canon, but the method is interesting.

and

Hopefully they will set you in the right direction.
I don't have an E-5, but plan on trying this method with the E-620 when I get the house to myself for a while.

Very interesting thread.........can the fine tuning be done on any other models besides the one mentioned above.
I have always thought my e510 was a touch out on focus....I expect it cannot be adjusted though.

Sorry Keith, I think only E-30, E-620 & E-5.
The E-P1 doesn't seem to mention it, I'm not sure about the later Pens

Hi Catherine,

I've spent time adjusting the auto focus on my E5 with a couple of lenses, a frustrating experience but too late tonight to go into details, I'll try to post something tomorrow, (well today now :-)

Thank you Paul, that would be very helpful! I haven't got round to doing it today. I noticed it will treat the combination of EC14 and 50-200 as a set which was my initial worry.

They did a fine job at Oly with my E3 though... It's rested and ready for more fieldwork in the spring. I do tend to use the E5 when I only need one body, I am enjoying it tremendously!

Thanks Andy! I borrowed a Spyder and tried it last weekend on the 50-200 + EC14 combo but couldn't really find that it needed any calibration using it. I'm going to test a bit more outdoors to find out if it really needs adjustment. Tomorrow I get to test against the 300mm 2.8 which I hope will be fabulous...
