I've been given a really nice aluminium case (think American Airstream caravan style - all rounded corners) approx 450mm X 300mm X 250mm. I'm planning to adapt it to house my burgeoning collection of equipment. Any suggestions of padded insulation suppliers so I can cut out camera/lens shapes and what I'd use to do so?

Try here: eFoam (http://www.efoam.co.uk/pickpluck.html)

I used this foam to fill a "Teacrate" so that I can transport my underwater camera housings on aircraft.

Thanks Steve I'll need to measure it up accurately and see what I need.

You might want to get a can of their spray adhesive as well as the foam splits easily and sometimes in the wrong places. The glue is very good but don't get it on your fingers as it is a sod to get off. Use latex gloves and spray in open air away from objects you don't want covered
