I dont now anything about video quality and ratings but how does the video on the E5 compare with a typical video camera.

The video quality is not bad - especially if you want to publish to Youtube as they both share the same 30fps frame rate.

My experience is that the video is not silky smooth when played on a TV, because of the frame rate difference - 25p (25 fps progressive) on a TV compared 30p from the E-5.

There is also an issue called 'video wobble' caused the so-called 'rolling shutter' output from the sensor. This afflicts a lot of video cameras that don't use CCD sensors, which includes most DSLRs these days. If you swing the camera from left to right, verticals will start to sway and wobble rather like jelly. So you need to be careful not to make quick camera movements.
