Sounds very much like a Korean company.

Edit: Looks like this company: Samyang optics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samyang_Optics)

I know the town of Masan very well indeed. Not a big place.

Samyang make the 8mm fisheye that is variously rebranded as Falcon, Bower, Vivitar, Rokinon etc and also the 85mm f1.4 which is also a manual lens and is well received by Canikon users.

Although a lesser known company and manual focus only this could be an interesting addition.

I have the 8mm Fisheye rebranded as Falcon and I have to say I was surprised with how sharp the optics are for the price, it is manual though, but this isnt much of a problem when using a fisheye

Anyone any ideas as to what the price of this lens might end up as? It looks an awesome walkabout/specialist-portrait/street lens. OK it's manual, but heck... I've ventured far, far enough away from 'P' now not to worry! :)

It seems very big and bulky compared to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-sigma-30mm-f1-4-ex-dc-hsm-lens-4-3-fit/p1012694) and that has AF as well.

I think it will be around 150 - 180 considering the 225 price of the 85mm and its got to be less than half of the Sigma 30mm.

Could indeed be a nice portrait lens and may get one myself, as I know my fisheye is sharp enough, I'd have no problem buying another lens from this company :D

I agree there Steve. I had considered the 30mm f1.4, but had heard bad things about them, however for the price this Samyang looks a decent enough punt!

Yes, the price certainly does look attractive. I was considering the Sigma 30mm lens or (more likely) the Sigma 50mm f/1.4. Hadn't heard of any reports of the Sigma 30mm John, so interesting to get your comments.

Would be interested to know what the image quality is like between these lenses.

Must admit to finding it tempting, can we persuade Pete to buy one and try it.

Or he could try the 85mm - another lens that catches my eye (and has had some good reviews) and strikes me as a great street/candid tele.

I think we can all pass on their mirror lenses.

What do you mean? Economically speaking, that lens (ZD 70-300) comes at a nice bargain price. Sounds like a very economical move to buy it. :D

TNX, read through with great interest.

One may not have heard of Samyang, but they can make sharp lenses, apparently..
