CHURCHES across Gwent will be among more than 200 Wales-wide displaying their treasures next Saturday, as part of Open Churches Day.
Among those in Gwent taking part are: St Mary's, Llanfair Kilgeddin, between Usk and Abergavenny, which boasts outstanding 19th Century coloured plasterwork decoration; St Michaelís, Llanfihangel Rogiet, which will be open to the public for the first time in 37 years; St Maryís, Rogiet, which is hosting an exhibition of wedding dresses through the ages; St Maryís, Magor, the architecture of which is thought to be the work of the same masons who built Tintern Abbey; and St Thomas, Redwick, where there will be an opportunity to learn about the Great Flood of 1606/07 which devastated southern Monmouthshire.
While many of the churches are open for visitors all the year round, Open Churches Day enables them to highlight treasures visitors might otherwise take for granted.
