View Full Version : which lens: Sigma 50mm 1.4 or 30mm 1.4?

My next project is to get myself a portrait lens. I am torn between Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the 30mm 1.4. If i just base my choice on numbers, the 50mm would be the best lens for me, right? But since the 4/3 system has a crop factor , that would make the 50mm = 100mm and the 30mm =60mm. hence the 30mm effectively becomes the best choice.
so can u guys help me decide, pls?

With any sigma lens, check it before you purchase. I purchase one 30mm and it went back the same day, I then tried one in a shop and it had the same problems. I recently purchased a 70-200 F2.8, and it again went back the same day. All of them were soft when used wide open. Droping down 2-3 stops helped, but when compared to the Olympus 50mm F2, they were sadly lacking.

That said, the Bigma 50-500mm that I sold a few months ago, was sharp. Just check before you purchase.

All I say is test it before you pay for it.
