How wide is your display? - that's the crux of the matter. There has been some discussion (http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10073) about the sizes that photos should be displayed at on the forum and gallery. We officially recommended 800 pixels wide or if vertical, 700 pixels.

This accommodates older 1024x768 screens well, but many of us now have larger displays. But how many of you still use smaller screens, and has the popularity of netbooks, with their tiny screens, held us back? So please use the voting system to let us know your display size (including more than one display size - check as many boxes as appropriate - if you have a laptop and a desktop, or even more computers).

I can't vote more than once. So I have skewed the data in favour of a widescreen when I also have an old 1024x768.

cheers

Sorry if it wasn't clear - you click as many of the check-boxes as appropriate.

PS, I'll see if I can modify your vote...

at 1440 I went for 1200 as the realistic choice...

That's a very common laptop screen resolution - I will add it to the poll options.

My main machine has a display of 1680 x 1050 (HP L2045W - connected to my Mac Mini) I do have a older notebook with a 1024 x 768 display but I rarely use. I think the only time I would like to upload larger than 800px wide to the forums is for pano's, I find the 800px a good size and if there happens to be several images in a single post those with slower connections don't suffer too badly at 800px, going larger will have an impact on those that have slower internet speeds.

I really don't mind scrolling a bit when I'm using a smaller screen

I can always take another look later

I think the ususal 800x600 ish is fine for most, but don't think people should be prevented from shoing wider formats

1366 * 768 until now I never looked at it (I have voted) I tend to always make the biggest size 800 for saving and posting.

This thread reminds me of a rant I made some time ago about the "upgrading" of Laptops to widescreen

http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7378

from the posts here it hasn't got any better recently unless you get 17" and even then you have to be really careful. We had to visit about 5 shops before we could find the combination of a decent processor, a screen size AND a decent screen resolution

The "new resolutions we're talking about here really aren't that new are they?
